How this EV vs gas cost calculator works
This tool uses a simple, transparent formula to compare running costs:
- EV cost per 100 = (EV kWh / 100) × electricity price per kWh
- Gas car cost per 100 = fuel consumption (L / 100 km equivalent) × fuel price per litre
- Monthly costs are based on your monthly distance, and yearly costs are that value × 12.
If you select MPG (US) as the fuel economy unit, the calculator converts it to L / 100 km internally using the standard factor (235.2 ÷ MPG).
